Being a Methodist Minister’s wife, we moved a number of times in the forty years in the ministry. The church supplied a home with most of the furniture furnished. It was always fun to make it our home. Our first parsonage lacked some comforts of home since the only convenience we had was electricity. Even the location was chosen for us because the house was usually next door to the church, which I liked.
When Frank retired, we were able to choose our own home and the location as well as the furniture. Those were special days together.
Then the time came when I needed to make another choice. I had looked at a place or two, but was not ready to move. My son, Dr. Ralph Turner, called one day to tell me that there was a one bedroom apartment available at Meadowstone.
I came to Dallas to see the apartment and later decided that I would like to live here.
What helped me to decide this would be my home, was the size of the apartment and the fact that it had a front door and a back door instead of the hotel look. Also the bathroom had a tub/shower. Moving out of a larger home, it was nice to be able to bring more of my furniture.
The club house offered an exercise room, and an excellent library that is kept up to date – including large print books. I keep a book on hand all of the time and can get another one when it is time.
I do like the fact that I’m not charged for meals unless I choose to eat in the dining room. All I have to do is let them know by 10 AM. If I’m unable to be there, the meal will be delivered to me.
Another advantage to Meadowstone is the location. There is a shopping center two blocks away with a grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants and beauty salons. We are about five minutes from North Park Mall or Presbyterian Hospital. Also, my other son, Gary Turner, is pastor of the Methodist Church in Euless, about thirty minutes away.
It is nice to have a gated community with remote gate opener access. I feel safer with that advantage.
Of course, the staff and residents are an added blessing. It is like an enlarged family. We are very proud of the staff that is here to make it a loving community.
The different activities here keep us from being bored as we enjoy the musical programs, Emeritus, games, trips, parties and just sitting around visiting with other residents.
In the summer time, we have two pools available for our pleasure of swimming, noodling, or water exercise classes.
We also have the covered parking for our cars.
We have Bible Study and different religious services available. We also have craft classes and sewing groups who make pillows and baby blankets to take to the hospital. So there is much to choose from.
All of these things make it a great home, as I have discovered in these ten years here.
