It happens so often that when the Lord closes one door, He opens another—and that is just what happened to me when I was here in Dallas one Christmas visiting my daughters.
My daughter told me, “Mother, we think you should move to Dallas.” Since my husband had passed away, I really had no one in my hometown. We started looking for apartments that very afternoon. My daughter said that she had heard that the apartment complex at Meadow and Stone Canyon was being totally renovated into a retirement community, so we took a look.
We loved it and selected a one bedroom apartment. After 54 years in one place, it was not easy to “pull up roots”, but it has been very easy to “plant new roots” at Meadowstone. We have no long hallways that our doors open to—you open your door to blue sky, trees, plants, fresh air.
We are a retirement “home” in every sense of the word. This is our home. We look after one another. We call on all the newcomers; we barely let them have time to unpack a few boxes before we descend on them to welcome them home. Our staff in the front office takes such good care of us, always ready to listen to us and help. Our kitchen staff prepares delicious meals and are very helpful with some of our special diets. Our bus driver helps us keep appointments—we could not do without her.
And finally, a very happy note: sometimes when our dining room is full at noon, our chef will give a lovely blessing with a song. You have no idea how much that means to all of us. We have moved from our homes and friends, but her words of grace make us all know how blessed we are to live at Meadowstone Place—it is truly a retirement “home”.
